At the end of this activity, students should be able to: – recognise a few of the best-known constellations. – explain the concept of stellar parallax. – define the parsec and the light year. – explain the difference between apparent magnitude and absolute magnitude. – describe the radiation emitted by stars and explain how it can be used to estimate the surface temperature of a star. – name the spectral classes of stars. – describe an H-R diagram.
