Amines and Amides: Reactions and Preparation

At the end of this activity, students should be able to describe the alkylation of ammonia and amines, explain how primary, secondary and tertiary amides are formed by the acylation of amines, discuss the physical and acid-base properties of amides, describe the hydrolysis and reduction of amides and describe the main general preparative routes to aliphatic and aromatic amines and use them to plan syntheses.
